When you skip bail, also known as 'jumping bail' or 'failure to appear,' a warrant is immediately issued for your arrest.
The bail bond is forfeited, meaning the bail bondsman may lose the full bail amount. They will then seek to recover this from the defendant or co-signer.
If collateral was used to secure the bond, it can be seized to cover the forfeited bail amount.
Skipping bail is itself a crime in California. You can face additional charges and penalties on top of your original charges.
Bail recovery agents, commonly known as bounty hunters, may be hired to locate and apprehend individuals who skip bail.
